Know your Target Audience
By figuring out who our target audience is, it will help us determine how and where to find them. Knowing your target audience will also help give you ideas of other related content to help promote your online business.
What type of product are you selling? What kind of customers do you want to attract? You want to figure out who they are and what they care about. You can never know too much about your customer. When I pick a product that I want to sell, I build an empathy map, with four questions. For this example, I will use Affiliate Marketing for Wealthy Affiliate.
What might my potential target audience be thinking? I know that I was thinking about Affiliate Marketing (promoting a product online for sales) and how I can get started. Could I start for free? Could I make money online? How do I get people to my website without paying for ads?
What might my target audience be seeing? I saw a lot of pyramid schemes and scams online. I gave up my search multiple times until I found Wealthy Affiliate. I feel that a lot of people have felt this same way.
What is my target audience doing? I was researching on google how to get started with Affiliate Marketing. I also met with successful marketers who make a full-time income with Affiliate Marketing.
What is my target audience feeling? As I talked with the people that I got the chance to meet and listen to their speeches, I was inspired to look into making online from home. I have always wanted to work from home, but I could never find anything that was real. I was feeling inspired for a while, but I was also sad that I couldn’t find anything legit.
What your target audience is feeling helps to figure out who my target audience is, why they want my product, and how my product can benefit them.
Awareness of your Target Audience
It’s essential to be aware of how and when your customers want to find you.
Where is my target audience? Are they on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.? Find out what channel your target audience uses and make sure that you set up an account on that channel for your business. Awareness of your target audience will help to maximize knowledge of your product on your website, but also on the channels that your target audience uses the most.
Once you find your target audience, you can start integrating yourself within the channels. What I mean by that is to be active with your target audience! Comment on their posts (not about your business but say hello and comment on whatever they posted). I have gotten to leads so far by doing this (just in a few days).
If you comment within the channels daily, your audience will start to recognize you and interact back. You will begin to get known as someone real, with valuable information to offer.
I have joined a lot of groups on Facebook, where I know my audience is. I see a lot, and I mean an ENORMOUS amount of scammers within the group. To help with this, I share my article on how to recognize, avoid, and report a scam. Some people appreciate others for taking the time to help.
Laying out the Foundation of your Business
By now, you should have a pretty good idea of who your target audience is and how to reach them. It’s time to build a website and set up the appropriate social channels. With the information that you have gathered from your empathy map, you can now apply that to laying out the foundation of your website.
You want to create a “target persona” for your website that includes your background and demographics, your needs, hobbies, goals, and barriers. You want your target persona to relate to people, and you want them to see that you have shared interests and barriers. Talk about the shared interests, and write articles on your obstacles and how you overcame them.
